Our Story

Founded in Freetown. Driven by community. Built for the future.

How It All Began

Western United Football Club was founded in 2022 in Freetown, Sierra Leone, born from a simple but powerful belief: football can unite people. A group of passionate community leaders and football enthusiasts came together to create a club that would serve the Western Area—not just as a team, but as a force for bringing communities together.

The club was established to address a gap in organized, community-rooted football in the Western Area. While talent existed in abundance, structured opportunities for young players to develop, compete, and progress were limited. Western United FC was built to change that.

Today, we field three teams—the First Team competing in Division One, along with our U17 and U15 development squads—creating a clear pathway from youth football to senior competition. Our badge, the pink and black, represents our identity: bold, proud, and unmistakably Western United.

How The Wild Dogs came to be

Our name isn’t borrowed from a brand — it’s drawn from the streets of Freetown itself. A story every Sierra Leonean knows by heart.

Walk through any neighbourhood in Freetown and you’ll see them: dogs at nearly every gate. In fact, six out of every ten homes keep a dog — mostly for security, some as beloved pets.

And on almost every one of those walls hangs the same warning, painted or posted for anyone passing by: “Beware of Wild Dogs.”

It’s a caution meant for the stranger, the visitor, the commuter. A simple sign that says — tread carefully. You are being watched. Do not assume you’re safe here.

Brought to the Pitch

We took that warning — the one that makes a commuter’s step quicken and a visitor pause at the gate — and gave it new life on the football field.

When opponents face Western United, we want them to feel exactly what that sign was always meant to make a stranger feel. No fear-mongering, no malice — just respect, born from the knowledge that something fierce is waiting inside.

"Beware — the Wild Dogs are here."
